Outdoor TV Cover Setup, Use & Care

Cover a switched-off, cooled TV; uncover the screen and all required ventilation before use. This guide covers the standard hook-and-loop and front-zipper iBirdie outdoor TV covers. Follow the instructions supplied with your exact cover, TV and mount when they are more specific.

Updated November 3, 2026. Still choosing? Start with measurement and fit or standard versus zipper.

Before fitting the cover

  1. Confirm the exact size and color against your order and its product size image. These covers are for flat screens, not curved TVs.
  2. Switch off the TV, let it cool and check that the surfaces to be covered are dry. Follow the TV manufacturer's directions if moisture is present.
  3. Check for sharp edges, projecting accessories and cables that would be bent or trapped. Do not loosen mounting hardware to force a fit.
  4. Open the relevant closures and place the cover gently, without pulling the fabric tightly over corners. Stop if the cover cannot close without tension.

Close the right parts

  • Standard: Position the slip-on cover and align its bottom and rear hook-and-loop closures around the installation.
  • Zipper: Position the cover, align the rear hook-and-loop closure, then close the front three-sided zipper without forcing it or catching fabric.
  • Both: Check the rear flap against the actual mount and make sure closures do not pinch plugs or cables. A rear flap does not guarantee compatibility with every mount.

When watching TV

Uncover the screen and keep the TV's required vents and clearances unobstructed. The zipper design provides front access, but an open front alone does not establish safe ventilation. Remove the cover if it would block any required ventilation or if the TV's instructions require removal. Keep loose fabric away from the screen, controls and cables.

Outdoor limits: what a cover cannot do

A cover does not make an indoor television suitable for permanent outdoor installation. It does not change the TV's temperature, humidity, electrical safety or weather-exposure limits. Choose and install the TV for its location independently of the cover.

Do not rely on either cover as a sealed enclosure or complete protection against heavy rain, hurricanes, prolonged strong winds or heavy snow. Follow the TV manufacturer's instructions to protect or relocate the equipment when conditions exceed its limits; do not attempt to move a mounted TV in unsafe conditions.

Both ranges have reinforced stitching but no dedicated air vents or seam-sealing tape. Do not treat them as a condensation-control system. Check for trapped moisture and let wet items dry as directed before reuse. The rear remote pocket is not a waterproof storage case.

Clean the cover away from the TV

  1. Remove the cover safely and take any remote or other contents out of the pocket. Do not rinse it while it is on the television or near electrical connections.
  2. Gently remove loose leaves, dust and pollen. For further cleaning, follow the care label for the exact cover; use only permitted methods and products.
  3. Avoid pressure washing, harsh cleaners, machine washing, tumble drying or added heat unless the product's instructions explicitly permit them. Contact support if the label is missing or unclear.
  4. Allow the cover to dry fully before putting it back on or storing it. Check folds, closures and the pocket for retained moisture.

Store without trapped moisture

When fully dry, fold the cover without tension and store it in a dry location away from sharp edges and heat. These TV covers do not include a storage bag; do not assume a sealed bag is suitable for a damp cover. Before reuse, check the fabric, stitching, zipper or hook-and-loop closures and rear flap for wear or damage.
